Area Surfing

ZONES: Designated surfing zones shift each day in Wrightsville Beach during the summer (ask a lifeguard, call 256-7925 or click here. Surfers must wear a leash at all times. PROHIBITED: Surfing within 500 feet of any commercial fishing piers or the Masonboro Inlet jetty is prohibited year round. FAVORITE SPOTS: Within Wrightsville Beach, favored spots include the northernmost point or the middle of the island near Columbia Street. Masonboro Island is also a popular site but hard to access. Many surfers paddle over from the south end of Wrightsville Beach across Masonboro Inlet, but this is not recommended because of the active boat channel and dangerous currents. Surfers may cross over the Intracoastal Waterway and walk across the narrow island to the beach.
