No doubt about it, editorial cartoons get readers more worked up than just about any element on the Star-News editorial page. Here's your chance to take your own shot at political humor. Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist Mike Peters has created a weekly online feature, Open Mike, which allows readers to write their own captions.

We invite your opinions on issues mentioned recently in our news pages and opinion columns. If your letter meets our basic guidelines for accuracy and decency, it will be published online without editing. We will select some letters or portions of letters for publication in our print edition.

Please address comments to the editor or to the readers rather than to a third party. Letters that contain libel, gratuitous profanity, racist remarks or personal insults, which assert unsubstantiated facts, which are copied from another source, or which are just plain ugly will not be published. Please be respectful of others' right to an opinion.

Please include your full name, home address and telephone number with any submissions in the boxes provided -- no need to repeat that information in the body of your letter; the system automatically places only your name and community of residence at the end.
