Police Blotter: Police arrest man they say violated protective order
Last Modified: Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at 10:00 p.m.
Wilmington police arrested a man early Tuesday who they allege twice went to his ex-girlfriend's home even though she had a protective order against him.
Jonathan L. Whitley, 21, faces charges of violating a domestic violence order, misdemeanor breaking and entering, assault, and property damage in connection with the incident, according to a statement from Lucy Crockett, spokeswoman for the Wilmington Police Department.
The incident occurred about 2:30 a.m. in the 4100 block of Abbington Terrace. The victim told police Whitley broke windows in her home as well as in a car outside. By the time officers arrived, he was gone. As police searched for Whitley, he returned to his ex-girlfriend's home, kicked in the front door and assaulted one of the woman's male friends, authorities allege.
Officers returned to the home and Whitley fled. He was later captured in the woods nearby, according to the police statement. By Wednesday evening, Whitley had been released on a $2,500 secured bond.

What are these men thinking.. Something needs to be done with the laws on this.. No woman should have to live in fear of what might happen. Some of these men are so emotional, they can't think of nothing but, being in control, and getting revenge. This world is getting more and more dangerous. Why can't you guys just take a hint, and get on with your lives instead of wasting time taunting, and stalking someone who has made it clear they don't want you anymore. In the end you either get arrested for violating your protective orders, or even more murder charges, and your entire life is wasted and gone forever. THINK ABOUT IT!

Why the heck did they let this jerk back out on the street after he violated the protective order twice, assaulted someone, caused property damage and needed a police manhunt to be arrested? He obviously is a violent and dangerous person and needs to be in jail. His victim must be terrified!

How is this a particular gender issue where as males are fingered as the lone perpetrators of such actions against another innocent victim.
Its certainly a substancial problem being among women who outnumber male victims of stalking by nearly a three to one margin, but in no fashion is it a less serious situation for their male counterparts. Either gender are and have become subject to being physical victims of very violent situations perpetrated by their unwanted stalkers. Including being permanently injuried or murdered.
Statictically on average over 300,000 men are stalked in the United States each year and a greater percentage of protective orders obtained by men against women stalkers are violated every year, as mentioned beforehand, often with serious consequences for the health, safety and well being of the male victim in the same manner as female ones.

LinkSo it seems that while serving probation for the reduced charges of violently assaulting a woman, the mother of his child, he gets let off on his violation charge and not only that, gets it changed to unsupervised.

I cannot understand why he would be let out of jail. It is obvious that a restraining order means nothing to this man. This fool violated a restraining order twice in the same night. It is no wonder that women with restraining orders are just as likely to be assaulted or killed as they were before they actually took out the order. Why even bother to get a restraining order?

My guess is because they dont have a gun. A gun beats a restraining order any day of the week.

A person does not need an attorney to get a restraining order. Those orders are ex-parte (one party), and any person can fill out the forms at the clerk's office, then a judge signs the form, and a temporary restraining order is served on the perpetrator by the Sheriff's department, and a court date is set to either dismiss the TRO, or make the Temporary Restraining Order valid for a year.
