Oak Island bridge construction to close road

The state Department of Transportation has released this sketch of the second Oak Island bridge, which is under construction.

The second Oak Island bridge, which is under construction, and a new road will link Middleton Avenue on the island with Midway Road at N.C. 211 on the mainland. Beginning Monday, the DOT will close Oak Island’s Yacht Drive between Northeast First Street and Northwest First Street for about six weeks so the bridge’s substructure can be safely constructed, according to a news release. Detour signs will guide traffic around the road closure.
