JoAnne Powell from the N.C. Maritime Museum in Beaufort presents International Travels with the N.C. Maritime Museum at 7 p.m. Aug. 21 in the Southport Community Center, 223 E. Bay St.
Powell has been director of the education branch of the museum for 20 years and a museum educator for more than 32 years. She presents public and special group programs and teacher workshops relating to coastal natural history and ecology and maritime history, especially as it relates to pirates, Blackbeard and the Queen Anne's Revenge.
Powell also coordinates the international travel programs for the museum. These expeditions focus on the natural history and maritime cultures of foreign destinations, such as the Amazon, Galapagos, Central America, Australia and East Africa. She will be reviewing these museum adventures and introducing the April 2008 cruise through the Galapagos during her presentation.
As a special treat, the refreshments will take on an international theme. Museum members get in free; nonmembers pay $5 each.
