The Wilmington Hammerheads professional soccer club held its annual inner-city soccer clinic Aug. 1 at Legion Stadium and among the participants was Nakiya Parker.

Nakiya said she most enjoys being on a team and learning to communicate with other players on the field.

She will be a sixth-grader this fall at Williston Middle School and said reading is her favorite subject. The Wizard of Oz is her favorite book.

The 11-year-old has in the past played on a basketball team but suggested tennis is her top sport. Her hobbies include styling hair and singing. She likes hip-hop, rhythm and blues and gospel music.

When she grows up Nakiya wants to be a hair stylist, singer or pediatrician.

Her favorite place to eat is the Oceanic and her TV viewing list includes classic shows like Full House and Sanford and Son.
