Fun finds at Christmas Houses

The holiday season can be so jam-packed with music, parties and annual traditions, why not spread it throughout the year? Shop owners from Topsail Island to the Calabash River keep the holiday spirit humming far beyond November and December. So take a look at these discoveries and remember the fun doesn’t have to end on New Year’s.

A small battery (included for the $17.50 price) powers the glow within this Christmas tree, so no wires restrict where the glass orb can hang. But ornaments are merely the obvious start to the holiday treats at Jingle Bells Christmas Shop in Sneads Ferry. Top an open wine bottle with a glass Christmas tree stopper for $8.75. Or give a bottle as a gift with a happy snowman holding on tight for $6.25. Jingle Bells Christmas Shop, 1004-B N.C. 210, Sneads Ferry, 327-1055.

Remind yourself and holiday visitors that the sunny days of summer will return by hanging this sand- and shell-filled ornament, $7.95 at the Cape Fear Christmas House on Oleander Drive. Imagine yourself sitting in the beach chair painted on the side while you warm your hands with hot cocoa or by the fire. Or, if you’re dreaming of a white Christmas, create one yourself with SnoWonder instant snow. Mix water with a $5.75 packet for a bowl of fresh snow that won’t melt. A ready-made holiday soundtrack is available on the ‘A Player Piano Christmas’ CD for $18.95. For a taste of the real thing, drop in the store and order a song on the player piano there for just a quarter. Cape Fear Christmas House, 6005 Oleander Drive, Wilmington, 796-0222.
