Fun finds at Chandler’s Wharf

Next time you’re bound for a meal at Elijah’s or The Pilot House, set out a bit early and explore the shops of Chandler’s Wharf. The main building can be reached through its doors facing the river across Water Street or through the stairs and wooden boardwalk leading down from the south end of Front Street. Across Ann Street you’ll find shops that might be overlooked by shoppers. These pearls are worth the walk – and you’ll work up an appetite for oysters on the riverfront!

SUMMER CHARMS
What better way to keep alive the beach days than with a memento you can wear even when summer ends? These flip-flops cast in gold and gems make beautiful pendants and charms. Set with real diamonds or formed with opal, each is crafted by a Florida artist who clearly understands the coastal life. $190 to $285 at A. Scott Rhodes, 2 Ann St. 763-6616.
KALEIDOSCOPES
Most galleries are filled with paintings and sculptures, but kaleidoscopes? Rolling pins? Music boxes? These are just a few of the beautiful surprises waiting at the Wilmington Gallery. Run by the Wilmington Art Association, the volunteer cooperative exhibits work by members including Burt Millette, the creator of these $70 pieces. Wilmington Gallery, 225 S.
