Eagles Team Capsules

• Boys Basketball
  • Last Year: 12-14, 6-6 Southeastern; lost second round of playoffs
    Starters back: 1–DaJour Smith
    What’s old: The Eagles will rely on their speed and athleticism as always.
    What’s new: Coach Larry Williams is changing up the offense this year due to the Eagles’ lack of height.
    Player to Watch: Guard Michael Riggins moves up from the junior varsity squad. He can play either guard position and has no problem shooting or slashing.
    Coach says: “We’re going to spread and look to use our speed to penetrate to the basket,” Williams said. “We’re so small, we don’t have a lot of post play."
    
• Girls Basketball
  • Last year: 27-4; 10-2 Southeastern; Lost to Pender in East Regional final.
    Starters back: 2–C Courtney Melvin, G Jasmine Kemp
    What’s old: The Eagles will continue to rely on defense and aim to hold opponents under 45 points per game.
    What’s new: A lot. Coach Patty Evers lost six seniors to graduation after last year’s trip to the regional final.
    Player to watch: Courtney Melvin. The team’s MVP as a freshman, the 6-foot sophomore forward has good hands and a big presence down low.
    Coach says: “This year, even though we have our two leading scorers and rebounders back, we’re still trying to recover from losing six seniors from graduation.”
